Lab: Kedzierska lab at the Peter Doherty Institute at the University of Melbourne
What is your favorite conference to attend?
In general, I greatly enjoy the Influenza conferences like Options and ESWI as these are attended by a great research community, many of whom who were also present at the CEIRR meeting. However, one of the best conferences I attended was The International Conference for Immunology in 2016 in Melbourne.
What do you research? What has been your favorite research project?
I study the mechanisms that underly gain-and-loss-of virus-specific immunity across the human lifespan
What are you hoping to achieve in science?
My research aims to improve our understanding on how immunity is generated and why if fails in at-risk populations like the elderly or immunocompromised individuals. I want to use this knowledge to understand how immune functions can be repaired when they fail, to develop novel vaccines/interventions for high-risk populations.
What is your favorite lab activity?
Somehow, I find PBMC isolations very relaxing, something about creating a perfect layer I guess.
What is your favorite thing about the lab?
The people, we have a great research team
What is your favorite thing to do outside of lab?
I greatly enjoy going for long walks with my dog Lola (see picture above) as well as drawing.
What do you find exciting in science?
The fact that you can discover something new, something that nobody knew before that point in time.
